Quickly Open Files via the Send To Menu
The Windows Explorer Send To menu provides a quick way to copy files to removable drives, such as flash memory sticks, and in later versions of Windows allows you to create compressed Zip archives to. To access it simply right-click on a file name and choose the action you’d like to take. You may be aware that you can easily customize this menu by adding new send to destination, but are you aware that you can add common applications to the menu? For example, a web browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer can display many different types of image and text data. Adding a shortcut to your browser to the Send To menu will allow you to quickly display any type of file in the browser, without having to modify each individual file type. To perform this tweak:
Windows Vista
1. Open My Computer and browse to C:\Users\
2. Right-click in a blank area of the Explorer window that opens and choose New > Shortcut.
3. Follow the wizard to create the shortcut (hint application .EXE files can be found in subdirectories under C:\Program Files). Try selecting your web browser, either firefox.exe. or iexplore.exe.
4. Close Windows Explorer. You will now find your new option when right-clicking on a file and choosing Send To.
Windows XP/2000/Me/98
1. Click Start > Run, type sendto and press [Enter].
You can of course do this for any application or folder, but in the case of an application, make sure it understands the types of file that you are sending to it.
