Change the Drive Letters Assigned by Windows
If you add a new hard drive to your PC, or partition your existing drive, you may find that Windows rearranges the drive letters in My Computer, assigning the drive a letter previously used by a different device. Not only is this annoying, it can cause programs and shortcuts that relied on the previous drive lettering scheme (for example, that your CD ROM drive is labeled D) to cease to function. Fortunately Windows XP and Vista make it easy to change the drive lettering, like so:
1. Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
2. Click Disk Management.
3. Right-click on the drive that you want to change the letter for, then select Change drive letter or path.
4. Click Change, then change the drive letter to the one you would prefer to use and click OK > OK. Note you can’t the letter of the drive you booted Windows from.
5. Click File > Exit to quit.
