What?s Coming Up in the World of IT: Another New Version of Windows to Look Out For.

With all the hype surrounding Windows 7, it’s easy to overlook some of the other members of the Windows family that Microsoft is working on. As well as seeing the release of Windows 7, October is due to see the release of Windows Mobile 6.5, designed to run on all manner of portable devices such as mobile phones and PDAs. Microsoft haven’t been doing too well in the mobile operating system market, with Apple’s iPhone operating system taking the lead, and sales of Google’s Android operating system growing at a steady rate. Now it seems they have developed a strategy to deal with their competitors. Rumor has it that Microsoft will adopt a two pronged attack; Windows Mobile 6.5 will be targeted as an alternative to Android, with the all singing, all dancing version 7 of Windows Mobile, due for release in 2010. This will be set up to compete with the iPhone OS. Whether this strategy will work, with Microsoft waiting up to a year before they start to seriously compete with the iPhone, remains to be seen. But with their share of the mobile operating system market place dropping 5% in a year, Microsoft definitely need to do something.
