Time for Windows 7? Maybe not yet

With the release of Windows 7 a mere two months away, the likelihood that this latest version of Windows will allow Microsoft to completely ditch XP is looking shaky. A recent survey found that out of 5000 Windows XP users polled, the majority said that they would be unhappy if Microsoft stopped selling XP altogether, and only just over half of those that had read about Windows 7 planned to upgrade. Fortunately for Microsoft, the majority of those questioned that had either tried or read about Windows 7 felt positive about it, which must come as some comfort after the hostile consumer reaction to Windows Vista.

Meanwhile Microsoft has taken a leaf out of Apple’s book, and are planning to offer a ?family pack’ of Windows 7 Home Premium. At a cost of $149 (around ?90), you will be able to install Home Premium on up to three PCs in your home. As the name suggests, this version of Windows is intended for families who have multiple PCs and all want to upgrade. It sounds like a good deal too, since three separate licences for Home Premium would set you back ?449.97. The Family Pack should be available when Windows 7 launches on October 22nd. We’ll bring you more news as we get it.
