Beware the Latest Online Scareware Threat

Scareware, in case you haven’t come across the term, is a type of malware that tries to make you believe there is a problem with your PC, and that you need to download expensive software from the scareware creators website to fix it. The latest scareware scam to hit Windows now imitates the most serious Windows error message ? the Blue Screen of Death. If this infection finds its way to your PC you will be presented with a seemingly genuine Blue Screen error message, telling you that your PC is infected with spyware, and that you need to buy a software package called called SystemSecurity in order to clean up your PC.

In actual fact the SystemSecurity package does nothing, other than relieve you of your hard earned cash. A genuine Windows Blue Screen error message will never advise you to purchase a particular software package, so the scam should in theory be easy to spot. However, many Windows users are so scared of Blue Screen errors that it’s likely that many unsuspecting users will be taken in by it. If you come across the infection, our advice is to give your computer a full scan with your virus checker and anti-spyware software, and under no circumstances buy the SystemSecurity software.
